John Deere 000613.04 – ECU: High-Pressure Fuel Pump Solenoid Voltage Low
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected that the voltage supplied to the high-pressure fuel pump solenoids is below the normal operational range. These solenoids are critical components in the common rail fuel system, controlling the amount of fuel that enters the high-pressure pump. Insufficient voltage impairs their function, leading to improper fuel pressurization which can cause engine performance issues, failure to start, or unexpected engine shutdown.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the high-pressure fuel pump solenoid for chafed wires, broken wires, loose connections, or corrosion.
Check for an audible click from the solenoid with the ignition turned to the 'ON' position (engine off) to verify mechanical actuation and power delivery.
Check overall battery and system voltage, ensuring the battery is fully charged, terminals are tight and clean, and the alternator is charging correctly.
Perform a load test on the circuit (e.g., using a headlight bulb connected to the solenoid's power and ground wires) to verify the circuit can carry the necessary current under load.
Check fuel quality and inspect fuel filters for clogs, which can put extra strain on the fuel system.
Repair steps
Safety First
Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts. Ensure the engine is cool and work in a well-ventilated area.
Locate the Solenoid
The high-pressure fuel pump solenoid (Suction Control Valve) is located on the high-pressure fuel pump itself.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid to prevent contamination from entering the fuel system during removal.
Disconnect Electrical Connector
Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.
Prepare for Fuel Spillage
Place rags or paper towels underneath the solenoid to catch any fuel that may spill when it is removed.
Remove the Solenoid
Remove the two or three bolts holding the solenoid in place and gently pull the solenoid from the pump body. Be aware that it may be spring-loaded.
Install the New Solenoid
Ensure the new solenoid's seal is in good condition and properly seated. Carefully insert the new solenoid into the pump. You may feel some resistance from the internal spring.
Secure the New Solenoid
Reinstall the mounting bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque. Do not over-tighten.
Reconnect and Test
Reconnect the electrical connector. Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition to the 'ON' position to listen for the click of the new solenoid engaging.
Start the Engine and Check for Leaks
Start the engine and carefully inspect for any fuel leaks around the newly installed solenoid.
Clear Fault Codes
Use a diagnostic tool to clear the ECU 000613.04 fault code and verify that it does not return.
