John Deere 613.04 – ECU: Voltage Too Low For High Pressure Fuel Pump Solenoid / Suction Control Valve Drive Shorted to Ground

The control module has detected that the electrical circuit driving the fuel pressure control valve (commonly referred to as the Suction Control Valve or SCV) has a voltage that is below specifications, indicating a short circuit to ground.

   Inspect the wiring harness running between the ECU and the Suction Control Valve for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses that could be shorting out against the engine block or chassis.

   Disconnect the SCV connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

   Check the voltage supply and ground circuits at the SCV connector with the key ON (engine off) to verify the ECU is sending the proper signal.

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the SCV solenoid coil to determine if the internal coil is shorted.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the suction control valve area—including the solenoid connector, the SCV mounting area, and surrounding pump and engine surfaces—with an engine cleaner and degreaser. Avoid any contamination entering the high-pressure fuel pump.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the suction control valve.

   Remove the Valve

   Remove the mounting fasteners securing the SCV to the high-pressure fuel pump, then carefully pull the old SCV out. (Note: If the engine compartment is heavily contaminated, John Deere recommends removing the entire high-pressure pump to perform this work on a clean bench).

   Install New Valve

   Lubricate the O-rings/seals on the new SCV with clean engine oil or diesel fuel. Install the new SCV into the pump and tighten the fasteners to the specified torque.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector and the negative battery cable.

7. 7

   Reset System

   Clear the fault codes from the ECU using a diagnostic tool. Run the engine to verify the repair and check for fuel leaks.
