John Deere 613.31 – ECU: Voltage Issue For High Pressure Fuel Pump Solenoid
Issue description
The control module has detected an electrical fault (such as a short to ground, open circuit, or abnormal resistance) in the drive circuit that controls the fuel pressure control valve (Suction Control Valve) on the high-pressure fuel pump. This prevents the engine from properly regulating fuel rail pressure, often resulting in an engine derate or a no-start condition.

Check the cause
Inspect the harness connector at the high-pressure fuel pump solenoid (Suction Control Valve) for looseness, corrosion, or pushed-out pins
Test the wiring harness between the ECU and the fuel pump solenoid using a multimeter to check for continuity, high resistance, or a short to ground
Ensure the battery is fully charged and the alternator is providing the correct voltage, as low system voltage can trigger false solenoid drive faults
Measure the internal resistance of the Suction Control Valve coil to determine if it is out of specification (shorted internally or open)
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing the fuel system electronics.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or break in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wiring or replace the pigtail connector.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring is intact but the valve failed the resistance test, clean the area around the high-pressure fuel pump to prevent contamination. Remove the mounting bolts securing the Suction Control Valve to the pump and extract the valve. Lubricate the O-rings on the new valve with clean diesel fuel and install it, torquing the bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Prime
Reconnect the electrical harness and battery. Prime the fuel system to remove any air introduced during the repair.
Reset ECU and Test
Clear the 000613.31 fault code from the ECU using a diagnostic tool. Run the machine under various operating conditions to verify the fuel pressure tracks the commanded pressure and the code does not return.
