628.02

John Deere 628.02 – CCU (Chassis Control Unit): Central Control Module Has Noted An issue With The Stored Tractor Configuration Data

Issue description

The control unit has detected an internal problem during its boot sequence at start-up. Specifically, there is an error reading the internal memory module (EEPROM) where the tractor's End Of Line (EOL) configuration data is stored. When this memory fails, the tractor cannot verify its configuration, resulting in degraded or limited functionality.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a System Reset: Cycle the ignition and perform a safe system reset to see if the EEPROM read error was a temporary glitch.

  2. Check Power Supply: Verify that the CCU is receiving a stable power supply within the specified voltage range. Inspect the wiring harness and power connections to the CCU for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose pins. A voltage drop during boot-up can sometimes trigger memory read errors.

  3. Update Software: Ensure that the CCU firmware is up-to-date. A dealer can apply available software patches that might address EEPROM reading issues.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate CCU

Locate the CCU (Chassis Control Unit) on your specific model (refer to the machine's technical manual for exact routing, often located in the cab load center or under the right-hand console).

  3. Remove CCU

Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the CCU and unbolt the module.

  4. Install new CCU

Install the new, genuine John Deere CCU and reconnect the harnesses.

  5. Program CCU

Dealer Programming Required: A new CCU is shipped blank. You must have a John Deere dealer connect to the tractor using Service ADVISOR to program the module with the correct End Of Line (EOL) configuration data and VIN security messages. The tractor will not operate correctly until this calibration is complete.
