John Deere 628.12 – Armrest Control Unit (AIC): Control Unit Internal Fault

The control unit has registered an electronic malfunction, failed to boot up properly, or encountered a critical error during software launch or reprogramming, potentially causing a failsafe mode or system shutdown.

   Cycle the power by restarting the tractor to see if the code clears from a temporary boot-up glitch

   Verify the AIC module is receiving a stable power supply by inspecting the battery, alternator, and wiring harness for voltage drops, spikes, or damage

   Inspect the Armrest Control Unit and harness connectors for physical damage, overheating, or corrosion, and ensure pins are seated properly

   Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR to verify software integrity and attempt to reflash or reprogram the AIC module

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Access the Module

   Locate the CommandARM™ / Armrest Control Unit on the operator's seat.

   Disconnect Harnesses

   Carefully disconnect the armrest control harness connector and the display module harness connector.

   Remove Hardware

   Remove the handle adjuster.

   Remove the Unit

   Unbolt and remove the CommandARM™ assembly from the seat.

   Install the New Module

   Swap the defective Armrest Control Unit with the replacement part and reinstall the CommandARM™ in the reverse order of removal.

   Reprogram

   Reconnect the battery and connect John Deere Service ADVISOR to calibrate the new AIC module and program it to the tractor's specific configuration (EOL data).
