John Deere 630.02 – GPM: Control Software Internal Fault

Issue description

There is an internal fault with the module software configuration. This is triggered when an incorrect entry, checksum error, or data corruption is detected in the internal memory (EEPROM) of the control unit.

Applies to these machines

Check the cause

  1. Perform a hard reset by disconnecting the GPM from its power source (or the tractor's main battery) for several minutes, then reconnect it to clear temporary memory boot-up errors.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connections to the GPM for voltage spikes or drops. Ensure the module is receiving stable ignition supply voltage.

  3. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR to run a memory diagnostic test on the GPM to verify if the memory corruption is a hard (permanent) or soft (reprogrammable) fault.

Repair steps

  1. Update Firmware

Connect the tractor to John Deere Service ADVISOR. Check for and apply any available software/firmware updates for the GPM.

  2. Reprogram the EEPROM

If the software allows, attempt to re-flash the module to overwrite the corrupted configuration data.

  3. Replace the Module

If the module refuses to take a software flash, or if the code immediately returns after a hard reset and update, physically replace the Gear Shift Module.

  4. Calibrate

After installing a new GPM, use the diagnostic tool to configure the software and calibrate the gear shift module to the tractor's transmission.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Gear Shift Module Direct Drive (GPM) / Transmission Gear Shift Module Control Unit

Provide your tractor's exact Product Identification Number (PIN) to a John Deere dealer to source the correct module variant. Ensure the replacement module is specifically for the DirectDrive transmission.
