Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to the VLC, such as VLC 000628.12 (VLC Programming) or VLC 002149.06 (VLC Circuit Current High)

  2. Verify power and ground to ensure the Vehicle Load Center is receiving proper voltage, as voltage spikes or drops can interrupt the module's ability to write to its internal memory

  3. Attempt to run the VLC calibration procedure to see if the parameters will overwrite successfully before assuming hardware failure

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the machine to John Deere Service ADVISOR.

  2. Check software payload

Check the current software payload on the Vehicle Load Center (VLC).

  3. Reflash the Module

Update or reflash the VLC control software to the latest version to rule out a software corruption issue.

  4. Run calibration

Run the module calibration procedure again.

  5. Cycle key

Cycle the key to prompt the module to save the parameters.

  6. Check for returning fault

If fault code 000630.31 returns, the internal EEPROM/memory of the VLC has failed and cannot retain data.

  7. Replace the Module

Remove and replace the Vehicle Load Center (VLC) / Rear Chassis Module.

  8. Program and calibrate

Use Service ADVISOR to program the End-of-Line (EOL) data and calibrate the new module.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Vehicle Load Center (VLC) Control Unit / Rear Chassis Module

John Deere does not use a single universal part number for the VLC; it is highly specific to the machine's Product Identification Number (PIN) and chassis configuration. Look up the exact part in the John Deere Parts Catalog for the specific machine's serial number.
