Issue description
Triggered when the control unit detects that the error threshold on the Vehicle CAN Bus has been exceeded. This condition can be caused by a short circuit, an open circuit, a missing terminating resistor, or excessive CAN Bus traffic (message overflow) preventing the module from communicating properly. As a safety response, the control unit typically defaults to a neutral state or disables its functions.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes (such as CCU 000639.12 or BCU 000639.12) to see if multiple modules are reporting CAN faults, indicating a central wiring problem or failed terminating resistor.
Cycle power by turning the ignition OFF and back ON to see if the module broadcasts its configuration and clears the overflow error.
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the armrest console for pinching, rubbing, or damage.
With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port or module connector (should read approximately 60 ohms).
Verify if the AIC software configuration is correct and up to date to rule out a software execution delay or system overload.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage.
Access the AIC
Remove the access panels on the cab armrest console to expose the Armrest Interface Control Unit (AIC).
Inspect the Harness
Disconnect the main harness connectors from the AIC. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.
Perform Continuity Testing
Using a multimeter, test the CAN High and CAN Low wires from the AIC connector to the next module in the CAN network (usually the Cab Control Unit or Chassis Control Unit). Repair any broken or shorted wires.
Reconnect and Test
Reconnect the harness and the battery. Turn the key to the ON position. If the code clears, the issue was likely a poor connection.
Update Software / Replace Module
If the wiring is perfectly intact and the terminating resistors test at 60 ohms, the AIC module has likely suffered an internal hardware or CAN transceiver failure.
Module Replacement
Unbolt the faulty AIC from the armrest assembly and install the replacement unit.
Calibration
Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR to upload the latest software configuration to the new AIC and calibrate the armrest controls (throttle, SCV levers, hitch controls).
