John Deere 651.02 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Injector Number 1 Code Error / Cylinder No. 1 Electronic Injector Part Number Invalid
Issue description
The controller detects that the part number or calibration code of the electronic fuel injector installed in cylinder #1 is incorrect or invalid. This discrepancy can lead to improper fuel delivery, causing the system to adjust engine parameters or limit performance (derate) to prevent potential engine damage.

Check the cause
Physically inspect the fuel injector installed in cylinder #1 to ensure the stamped part number matches the specified OEM part number required for your exact engine model.
Connect a diagnostic tool (such as John Deere Service ADVISOR) to verify the injector calibration code (QR code/trim code) programmed into the ECU for cylinder #1 matches the physical injector.
Repair steps
Recalibrate the Injector
If the physical part number on the injector is correct for the engine but the code is active, use the diagnostic tool to input the correct calibration code into the ECU for cylinder #1.
Replace Incorrect Injector
If the physical inspection reveals that the wrong injector was installed (often happens after a recent repair or engine swap), remove the incorrect injector and install the correct OEM part. Note: It is highly recommended to replace injectors as a matched set to prevent uneven atomization and vibrations.
Program the New Injector
If a replacement is installed, you must program the new injector's specific calibration code into the ECU.
Reset and Verify
Clear the fault codes from the ECU, cycle the key, and run the engine to verify that the injector operates correctly and the 000651.02 code does not return.
