John Deere 652.06 – ECU: Injector Number 2 Low Resistance Error / Cylinder #2 Electronic Injector Circuit Shorted

Issue description

The controller detects that the electrical current to the Cylinder #2 fuel injector is increasing too rapidly. This indicates a short circuit (low resistance) either in the wiring harness leading to the injector or within the injector's internal solenoid.

Check the cause

  1. Cycle power by restarting the engine to verify if the active Service Code reappears, as communication messages can trigger a false alert.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the ECU to the Cylinder #2 injector for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short to ground or a short to another wire.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector at the Cylinder #2 injector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the injector's solenoid pins. Compare the reading to the OEM specification to determine if the injector has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Short

    If the injector solenoid tests within specification, the short is in the wiring harness. Repair or replace the damaged section of the engine wiring harness.

  2. Replace the Injector

    If the injector solenoid fails the resistance test (shows a dead short or abnormally low resistance), the Cylinder #2 fuel injector must be replaced.

  3. Install New Injector

    Remove the faulty injector and install the replacement according to the engine-specific service manual. Ensure all O-rings and seals are new and properly lubricated.

  4. Calibration

    Note that some John Deere systems require the new injector's calibration code (QR code or alphanumeric string on the injector body) to be programmed into the ECU using a diagnostic tool (Service ADVISOR) to ensure proper fueling.

  5. Clear Codes

    Clear the ECU fault codes and test-run the machine to verify the repair.
