Check the cause
Verify if fuel injector #3 was recently replaced. If a new injector was installed but not programmed into the ECU, this code will trigger.
Inspect the physical part number on the fuel injector installed in cylinder #3 to ensure it is the correct OEM part for your specific engine.
Read the QR code/calibration code printed directly on the injector body and use a diagnostic tool to read the calibration data currently stored in the ECU for cylinder #3. The codes must perfectly match.
Repair steps
Replace incorrect injector
If the wrong injector is installed: Remove the incorrect injector from cylinder #3 and install the correct OEM fuel injector.
Connect diagnostic scanner
If the correct injector is installed (Calibration Fix): Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR (or a compatible heavy-duty diagnostic scanner) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Navigate to ECU programming
Navigate to the ECU programming/calibration menu.
Input calibration code
Select cylinder #3 and input the correct injector calibration code (QR code) found on the injector body.
Save calibration
Save the calibration to the ECU.
Clear fault code
Clear the active 000653.02 fault code.
Verify repair
Restart the engine and verify that the code does not return and the engine runs smoothly.
