Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Verify the fuel tank level and check the fuel filters for clogs or restrictions, as poor fuel supply can trigger low flow codes

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to Injector #4. Look for frayed wires, corrosion, or loose pins

  3. Perform a continuity and resistance test on the suspected injector circuit to rule out a short to ground or an open circuit

  4. Ensure the injector's QR code calibration data in the ECU is correct. An invalid QR code can cause the injector to malfunction

  5. Use John Deere Service Advisor to run a cylinder contribution test or injector cutoff test to pinpoint if the failure is strictly mechanical or electrical

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Fault

    If wiring and fuel supply are confirmed good, the fault lies within the #4 fuel injector itself.

  2. Remove the Faulty Injector

    Depressurize the fuel system. Disconnect the electrical harness and high-pressure fuel lines from Injector #4. Remove the hold-down clamp and extract the injector.

  3. Install the New Injector

    Clean the injector bore. Install the new injector using a new nozzle kit, O-rings, and hold-down hardware. Reconnect the fuel lines and torque to OEM specifications.

  4. Code the Injector

    You must use John Deere Service Advisor (or an equivalent diagnostic tool) to program the new injector's specific QR code/calibration code into the ECU.

  5. Reset and Test

    Clear the 000654.18 fault code from the ECU. Prime the fuel system, start the engine, and conduct a system test under load to ensure proper fuel flow and verify no codes return.
