   Perform a full key-cycle/reboot of the system to rule out a temporary internal software self-test failure.

   Remove the steering column covers to access the Steering Input Device (SID).

   Interchange (swap) the wiring connectors for Sensor 1 and Sensor 2 at the SID.

   Clear the codes and turn the steering wheel. If the same 000708.10 code (Channel 1) returns, there is a wiring harness issue (open, short, or high resistance) between the SID and the XMC controller.

   If the fault code shifts to the other channel (e.g., Channel 2 signal mismatch/fault), the Steering Input Device itself has internally failed and must be replaced.

   Access the Sensor

   Disconnect battery power. Remove the plastic cowl/covers surrounding the steering wheel column to expose the Steering Input Device (SID) and its wiring.

   Inspect Wiring

   Check the harness leading to the SID for chafing, pinched wires, or loose connector pins. Repair any damaged wiring.

   Replace the Sensor

   If diagnosed faulty, unplug the electrical connectors from the SID. Unbolt the sensor assembly from the steering column shaft and remove it.

   Install New Part

   Slide the new Steering Wheel Position Sensor onto the column, secure the mounting hardware, and plug in the connectors.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reinstall the steering column covers. Reconnect the battery. You will likely need to use John Deere Service Advisor to clear the stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and perform a steering wheel position sensor calibration so the XMC module learns the new sensor's center position.
