   Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the Steering Wheel Position Sensor on the steering column for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins

   Verify that the XMC control software and XSC control software are on the same, most up-to-date version to rule out a software mismatch

   Using a multimeter or John Deere Service ADVISOR, monitor the duty cycle and frequency of Channel 1 on the steering wheel position sensor while turning the wheel to check for signal dropouts

   Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), cycle the key, and turn the steering wheel to see if the code returns as active

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts and ensure the XMC module is powered down.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the steering column shrouds/cowling to access the steering shaft where the rotary position sensor is mounted.

   Remove the Old Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws/bolts holding the sensor to the steering column assembly and slide the sensor off the shaft.

   Install the New Sensor

   Slide the new steering wheel position sensor into place, ensuring the rotary mechanism aligns correctly with the steering shaft splines/tabs. Secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor and reinstall the steering column shrouds. Reconnect the battery.

6. 6

   Calibration

   You must use John Deere Service ADVISOR to perform a steering system calibration. The XMC/XSC modules need to learn the new sensor's center position and end-stops.

7. 7

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 000708.20 fault code and test drive the machine to verify AutoTrac and manual steering operate smoothly.
