John Deere 735.06 – Transmission Control Unit: Reverse Solenoid Valve Current Too High

The control software has detected that the electrical current at the lead of the Reverse Solenoid Valve (Proportional Solenoid Valve for Reverse Brake, Clutch C2, or Y2 Solenoid) is too high, indicating a short circuit.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the transmission control unit to the reverse proportional solenoid valve for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or corrosion.

   Test the solenoid valve coil resistance using a multimeter across the solenoid pins (a reading close to 0 Ohms indicates an internal short).

   Check for a short to power or ground by probing the harness-side connector with the key ON (with solenoid disconnected).

   Preparation

   Park the machine on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the transmission control valve block (usually on the side or top of the transmission housing) and identify the Reverse Solenoid (Y2 or C2).

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the transmission. Remove the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil/valve in place.

   Replacement

   Pull the faulty solenoid valve or coil off the stem. Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission hydraulic oil.

   Installation

   Insert the new solenoid valve into the block, install the retaining hardware, and torque to OEM specifications.

   Reassembly & Testing

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Start the machine, clear the stored fault codes via the monitor, and test the transmission by shifting into reverse to ensure smooth engagement and that the code does not return.
