Issue description

Verify Electrical Supply: Ensure that the electrical supply voltage to the solenoid is within the correct OEM specification range. Check for any blown fuses (such as fuse F9 on 7000-series tractors) or power source issues.
Test Solenoid Function: Use a multimeter to measure the internal resistance of the solenoid coil to see if it has failed open, or use John Deere diagnostic software to command the solenoid and test its functionality.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, shut off the engine, and remove the key.
Locate the Solenoid
Consult the specific machine's technical manual to locate the affected solenoid on the transmission valve body (e.g., K1/Y40 gear selector solenoid, Reverse Brake solenoid, or C3 clutch solenoid).
Disconnect the Harness
Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid valve.
Clean and Repair Wiring
If corrosion or a broken wire was found during diagnostics, clean the connector pins with contact cleaner or repair the broken wire in the harness.
Replace the Solenoid
If the solenoid coil tested open or shorted, remove the retaining hardware securing the solenoid to the transmission valve block. Extract the old solenoid.
Install the New Part
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and torque the retaining hardware to OEM specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid, ensuring the connector clicks and locks securely.
Clear Codes and Test
Turn the key on, clear the 000736.05 fault code from the control unit, and start the tractor. Perform a test drive, shifting through the gears to ensure the transmission operates smoothly and the code does not return.
