John Deere 737.05 – PTQ / EPC: Gear Selector Solenoid Valve K2 (Y39) Open Circuit / Low Current

The control unit has registered an open circuit or low current (amps) at the signal input of the Gear Selector Solenoid Valve K2 (Y39). This means insufficient current is flowing to the solenoid valve, which prevents it from functioning correctly and can lead to issues with gear selection, clutch engagement, and overall transmission performance.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the K2 (Y39) solenoid valve for signs of physical damage, loose connections, oil intrusion, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to check for open circuits or shorts to ground in the wiring between the PTQ/EPC module and the solenoid.

   Ensure that the electrical supply from the control unit to the solenoid valve is within the correct voltage range.

   Measure the resistance (ohms) of the K2 solenoid coil using a multimeter to check for an internal failure (open circuit or infinite resistance).

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the Gear Selector Solenoid Valve K2 (Y39) on the transmission valve block (location varies by transmission type, often on the side of the transmission housing).

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the K2 solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion and check if transmission oil has pushed through the solenoid into the connector (a common cause of failure).

   Test the Coil

   Probe the solenoid terminals with a multimeter. If the coil tests as an open circuit, the solenoid is defective and must be replaced.

   Repair Wiring

   If the solenoid tests good, trace the wiring harness back to the PTQ module. Repair any broken wires or corroded ground connections.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the solenoid is faulty, relieve any residual hydraulic pressure, remove the retaining hardware, and extract the K2 solenoid valve. Install the new solenoid with new O-rings/seals and torque to OEM specifications.

   Reset and Test

   Reconnect the wiring harness, clear the fault codes via the CommandCenter or diagnostic tool, and test drive the tractor by shifting through all gears to ensure the code does not return.
