737.06

John Deere 737.06 – Rear Chassis Module (PTQ): Gear Selector Clutch K2 Solenoid Amps High

Issue description

The control software has detected an abnormally high electrical current at the lead of the proportional solenoid valve responsible for the K2 clutch (Side Shaft 1), indicating a short circuit in the solenoid coil or the wiring harness.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the PTQ/PTD control unit and the K2 proportional solenoid valve for pinched wires, rubbed-through insulation causing a short to ground or power, and corrosion or moisture inside the connectors.

  2. Use a multimeter to perform a resistance test on the K2 proportional solenoid valve. Compare the ohm reading to OEM specifications to determine if the internal coil is shorted.

  3. Verify that the PTQ module itself is operating correctly and is not internally shorted, which could cause it to send excessive current to the valve.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Wiring Repair

If the diagnostic inspection revealed damaged wiring or corroded connectors, repair or replace the affected harness sections. Ensure the new wiring is routed away from high-heat areas and pinch points.

  3. Solenoid Replacement

If the K2 proportional solenoid valve failed the resistance test (shorted coil), remove the defective valve from the transmission valve body and install a new OEM replacement.

  4. Software Update

Check with a John Deere dealer to see if there is a software update available. Reprogram or update the control unit software if necessary, as software patches sometimes address overly sensitive current monitoring.

  5. System Monitoring

Reconnect the battery, clear the stored fault codes, and operate the tractor. Monitor the transmission system to ensure proper shifting operation and verify that the current levels remain within the specified range without the code returning.
