John Deere 84.07 – PTR, PTP, PTQ, or EPC: Main Control Module Has Noted A Wheel Speed During A Transmission Calibration
Issue description
The transmission control unit detected a wheel speed signal while a transmission calibration procedure was being performed. Transmission calibrations must be conducted with the machine completely stationary. The presence of a wheel speed signal aborts the calibration process and logs this fault. The underlying condition is either actual physical movement of the tractor, a faulty wheel speed sensor mimicking movement, or a CAN BUS communication error.

Check the cause
Verify the tractor is completely stopped on level ground and is not rolling or vibrating excessively
Inspect the transmission wheel speed sensor (B09/B35) for physical damage, debris buildup on the magnetic pickup, or loose connections
Check the wiring harness between the wheel speed sensor and the PTR/PTQ module for chafing, shorts, or corrosion that could cause a false speed signal
Repair steps
Bring the tractor to a complete stop on a flat, level surface.
Ensure the tractor is completely stopped on level ground.
Apply the parking brake securely to ensure absolutely no vehicle motion.
This prevents any accidental movement during calibration.
Restart the transmission calibration procedure via the dash or diagnostic tool.
Attempt the calibration again while ensuring the vehicle is stationary.
If the calibration completes successfully, the code was simply triggered by accidental movement and can be cleared.
Clear the code if no further issues arise.
If the code returns immediately while the tractor is stationary, the wheel speed sensor is likely sending a false signal (or the CAN BUS message is incorrect).
Proceed to test the sensor if the code persists.
Disconnect the wheel speed sensor and test its resistance/voltage output according to the technical manual.
Check the sensor's electrical properties to verify its functionality.
If the sensor fails the test or the wiring is compromised, replace the wheel speed sensor and re-attempt calibration. If the code persists, contact a John Deere dealer to verify CAN BUS communication between the BCU and the transmission controller.
Replace defective parts and seek dealer assistance if CAN BUS communication issues are suspected.
