John Deere 84.14 – SCO, PTQ, SCC, EPC: Tractor Moving Too Fast For Function To Work / Wheel Speed Sensor Missing On CAN BUS / Wheel Speed Sensor Fault

Triggered when the control unit detects that power is flowing through the transmission (clutch pedal released and the drive lever is in forward/reverse), but no wheel speed signal is detected, or the wheel speed data received via the CAN BUS is invalid/missing. It can also trigger if the tractor is moving too fast for a specific chassis function to safely engage.

   Restart the engine to see if the code clears, which indicates a temporary CAN BUS communication timeout.

   Inspect the wheel speed sensor (B09 or B35) for physical damage, heavy debris buildup, or a severed wire.

   Inspect the CAN BUS wiring harness connecting the sensor to the control module for loose connections, corrosion, or chafed wires.

   Verify that the tractor's control software is up to date to prevent misinterpretation of wheel speed data.

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the B09/B35 wheel speed sensor, typically mounted on the wheel hub assembly or the transmission housing (depending on the exact axle/transmission option).

   Disconnect Harness

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove Sensor

   Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor in place and pull the sensor straight out.

   Clean the Port

   Wipe away any dirt, grease, or metallic shavings from the mounting port to ensure the new sensor seats at the correct depth.

   Install New Sensor

   Insert the replacement wheel speed sensor and tighten the retaining bolt to OEM torque specs.

   Reconnect and Clear

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn on the tractor, clear the stored diagnostic trouble codes via the CommandCenter display, and test drive the tractor to verify that the speedometer registers correctly and the code does not return.
