John Deere 000091.02 – CAB: Accelerator Pedal Voltage Inconsistent

Issue description

A control module has detected an inconsistent voltage signal from the accelerator pedal (foot throttle sensor). Modern electronic accelerator pedals use two potentiometers for redundancy to verify pedal position. If the voltage signals from these two sensor circuits do not correlate as expected, the controller flags this fault. This condition affects the proper operation of the tractor's speed control system and may force the machine into a restricted function mode.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the accelerator pedal assembly and the Cab Control Unit for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

  2. Check for power and ground at the sensor using a multimeter (ignition on, engine off) to verify it is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5 volts) and has a solid ground.

  3. Test the signal voltage by back-probing the signal wire terminals while slowly and smoothly depressing the accelerator pedal. The voltage should increase steadily (e.g., from approximately 0.5 volts at idle to 4.5-4.7 volts at full throttle).

  4. Test both signal circuits (accelerator pedals often have two potentiometers for redundancy) and look for any sudden jumps, drops, or dead spots in the voltage reading that indicate a faulty sensor.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off and disconnect the battery.

  2. Access the Pedal

Locate the accelerator pedal assembly mounted to the cab floor or firewall.

  3. Disconnect Electrical Connector

Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from the pedal sensor.

  4. Remove Mounting Bolts

Unbolt the pedal assembly from its mounting position.

  5. Install New Pedal

Mount the new accelerator pedal assembly and secure it with the bolts.

  6. Reconnect Electrical Connector

Reconnect the wiring harness to the new sensor.

  7. Reconnect Power and Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and verify that the fault code is cleared and the throttle operates correctly. In some cases, a calibration procedure using diagnostic software may be necessary after replacement.
