John Deere 920.06 – ICC (Instrument Cluster Controller) or EMU (Engagement and Monitor Unit) / Dash Module: Alarm Output Circuit Fault / Audible Alarm Current High

The control module has detected the current (amp draw) on the warning/backup alarm output circuit is above normal (out of range high). This typically indicates a short-to-ground in the alarm wiring harness or an internal short circuit within the alarm itself.

   Perform a visual wiring inspection by tracing the wiring harness from the alarm unit back to the module (e.g., checking connectors X41 and X42 on skid steers). Look for chafed wire insulation, pinched wires, or melted areas that could cause a short to ground.

   Perform a disconnect test by unplugging the backup/warning alarm. Turn the machine on and check the active codes. If the code changes from a 'Current High' (000920.06) to an 'Open Circuit' code, the wiring is intact and the alarm itself is internally shorted.

   Perform a resistance test using a multimeter to measure the resistance across the alarm's terminals. A reading of near-zero ohms confirms the alarm has failed internally and is drawing too much amperage.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed or damaged wiring, splice and heat-shrink the damaged section or replace the affected harness pigtail.

   Replace the Alarm

   If the alarm is internally shorted, unbolt the faulty alarm assembly from its mounting bracket.

   Install New Part

   Mount the replacement OEM alarm and plug it securely into the factory harness.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, power on the machine, and engage reverse (or trigger the warning condition) to ensure the alarm sounds properly without tripping the circuit.

   Clear Codes

   Use John Deere Service ADVISOR or the onboard monitor unit to clear the stored 000920.06 DTC.
