John Deere 924.03 – SCO: Stepper Motors for E-SCV X and E-SCV XI, Supply Voltage Too High

Issue description

The SCO control module detects that the supply voltage (battery voltage) being sent to the stepper motors for the Electronic Selective Control Valves (E-SCV X and E-SCV XI) exceeds 16 volts. When this happens, the control software limits or disables the SCV functions to protect the electrical components.

Check the cause

  1. Test alternator output voltage across the battery terminals while the tractor is running (readings above 15.5V - 16.0V indicate an overcharging alternator).

  2. If alternator output is normal (13.5V - 14.5V), trace the wiring harness from the SCO module to the rear E-SCV X and XI stepper motors for chafed wires shorting to a high-voltage power source.

  3. Inspect the connectors at the SCO module and the E-SCV stepper motors for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins bridging a power circuit to the sensor/supply circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the negative battery cable before performing any electrical repairs.

  2. Address the Charging System (If overcharging)

    Remove the serpentine belt tensioner to relieve belt tension. Disconnect the electrical connections on the rear of the alternator. Unbolt and remove the faulty alternator. Install the new alternator, reconnect the wiring, and reinstall the drive belt.

  3. Repair Wiring (If alternator is fine)

    Splice and heat-shrink any chafed wires found in the SCV harness, or replace the affected harness section entirely.

  4. Reassemble and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and clear the stored SCO 000924.03 code.

  5. Test Operation

    Start the tractor, verify that the charging voltage is now stable (around 14V), and test the rear SCV levers/joystick to ensure the E-SCV X and XI stepper motors respond correctly without throwing the code.
