John Deere 974.02 – ACU (Armrest Control Unit) or UIC (User Interface Control): Hand Throttle Sensor Circuit Voltage Conflict

The control unit detects a mismatch between the output signals of the hand throttle potentiometer (B78). The voltage at channel 1 (lead 6077) must be exactly double the voltage of channel 2 (lead 6036). When this ratio is incorrect, the system flags the 000974.02 code, which may result in degraded system functionality, limited throttle response, or a fail-safe mode to prevent erratic behavior.

   Inspect the hand throttle potentiometer (B78) and its associated wiring for signs of physical damage, wear, or loose/corroded connections.

   Using a multimeter, measure the voltage outputs from both circuits of the hand throttle sensor.

   Confirm the discrepancy by checking the ratio between the two channels. The voltage at channel 1 (lead 6077) must be exactly double the voltage at channel 2 (lead 6036).

   Ensure the sensor's wiring is properly shielded from potential electromagnetic interference, which can skew voltage outputs.

   Secure Connections

   Disconnect the hand throttle sensor, clean the electrical contacts to remove any corrosion, and securely reconnect it.

   If the voltage ratio is incorrect due to a wiring fault (e.g., a short or break in lead 6077 or 6036), repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.
