Kubota 11 – ECU: Excel Sensor Circuit Fault

Issue description

On the Kubota KX121-3 excavator, fault code 11 indicates a fault with the Excel sensor, which is associated with the throttle control system. The underlying issue is typically a fault within the sensor's electrical circuit, monitored by the Engine Control Unit (ECU).

Applies to these machines

  • KX121-3

Check the cause

  1. Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness connected to the throttle position sensor for any visible damage, corrosion, or insecure connections

  2. Verify that the throttle cable moves smoothly and does not bind

  3. Check that the Excel sensor is correctly aligned

  4. Be aware that disconnecting the battery may temporarily clear the code from the ECU, but it will not fix an underlying physical issue like a damaged wire or faulty sensor

Repair steps

  1. Inspect wiring and connectors

Perform a visual inspection of the sensor's wiring and connectors.

  2. Clean and repair wiring

Clean any corroded terminals and repair any frayed or broken wires.

  3. Secure and align sensor

Ensure all connectors are securely fastened and the Excel sensor is properly aligned.

  4. Replace sensor

If the fault code persists after confirming the integrity of the wiring and connections, the sensor itself is likely the cause and should be replaced.
