Kubota 2: Low Fuel Level Warning
Issue description
This warning indicates that the fuel level in the machine has dropped to a predetermined low level (typically between 10% and 15% capacity), prompting the operator to refuel. The system relies on a fuel level sending unit inside the tank, which uses a float and variable resistor to change electrical resistance as the fuel level changes. The instrument cluster or powertrain control module interprets this resistance to trigger the warning light and display the level on the gauge.

Check the cause
Visually inspect for loose or corroded wires and connectors at the fuel sending unit and the back of the instrument cluster or gauge
Perform a gauge test by disconnecting the signal wire from the fuel sending unit and grounding it with the key on; the gauge should go to full, indicating the gauge and wiring are functional
Test the sending unit resistance by disconnecting its wiring, connecting an ohmmeter to the terminals, and moving the float arm through its full range. The resistance should change smoothly without sudden drops or an open circuit (O.L.) reading
Inspect the float integrity by removing the sending unit and checking for a damaged float or broken float shaft
Repair steps
Access the fuel tank
Remove any necessary components such as a fender, cover, or operator's seat to gain access to the top of the fuel tank where the sending unit is located.
Clean the area
Thoroughly clean the area around the sending unit to prevent dirt and debris from falling into the fuel tank during removal.
Disconnect wiring
Carefully disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel sending unit.
Remove the sending unit
Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the sending unit, along with its float arm, out of the fuel tank.
Install new unit
Carefully insert the new sending unit into the tank, ensuring the float and arm do not get bent or stuck.
Secure and reconnect
Fasten the new unit with the screws and reconnect the electrical wiring.
Test system
Turn the ignition on to confirm the fuel gauge is providing a plausible reading before reassembling the covers and seat.
