Kubota E:017 – Meter Panel: Fuel sensor error
Issue description
The system triggers this code when the fuel sensor has developed a fault, causing the fuel gauge to disappear from the display. This indicates an open circuit, which occurs if the fuel sensor resistance is over 135 Ω (broken internal wiring), the sensor connector is disconnected, or there is a break in the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Verify that the warning lamp on the LCD panel is blinking red and displaying the E:017 error message.
Enter Tester Mode on the LCD panel, start the engine, and check the display for the voltage and resistance readings of the fuel sensor.
Inspect the fuel sensor connector at the fuel tank to ensure it is not disconnected.
Trace the wiring harness back toward the meter panel to check for physical breaks, damaged wires (e.g., rodent damage), or loose connections.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance of the fuel sensor (float) directly. A reading over 135 Ω indicates the internal wiring of the sensor is broken.
Repair steps
Safety First
Lower the control lever lock (unload lever) to the locked position, turn off the engine, and pull out the key.
Clean Connections
If the diagnostic checks revealed a loose or dirty connection, clean the connector terminals and ensure they are tight ("brighty and tighty"). Re-test the machine.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring harness is intact but the sensor resistance tests above 135 Ω (or shows an open circuit), the fuel sensor must be replaced.
Access the Tank
Locate the fuel sensor mounted on the fuel tank assembly.
Swap the Part
Disconnect the electrical harness, remove the mounting hardware holding the sensor to the tank, and pull out the old float sensor. Install the new OEM fuel sensor and secure it.
Verify Repair
Reconnect the wiring harness, turn the ignition key on, and verify that the fuel gauge now appears on the LCD display and the E:017 code is cleared. Press the display selector switch to return to the default display if necessary.
