Kubota E:018 – Meter Panel / LCD Display Panel: Water Temperature Sensor Error
Issue description
The sensor is sending an erratic, out-of-range, or missing signal (often due to an open or short circuit). Because the system cannot read a valid temperature, the ECU/display disables the coolant temperature gauge, and the gauge will disappear from the LCD display to prevent the operator from relying on false data.

Check the cause
Verify that the warning lamp on the LCD panel is blinking red and displaying 'E:018'
Enter the meter panel's 'Tester Mode' (Service Dealer Mode) to view the live voltage/resistance data coming from the coolant temperature sensor. A reading of 0.00V or infinite resistance indicates a complete loss of signal
Inspect the wiring harness and dual-pin connector between the coolant temperature sensor (on the engine block/thermostat housing) and the meter panel for chafed wires, broken pins, or corrosion
Disconnect the sensor and test it with a multimeter. If the resistance does not change when the engine warms up, or if it shows an open circuit, the sensor has failed internally
Repair steps
Preparation
Ensure the machine is turned off, the key is removed, and the engine is completely cool. Never open the cooling system when the engine is hot.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the water temperature sensor on the engine. It is typically threaded into the cylinder head or near the thermostat housing (it features a brass hex-head body with a sealed electrical connector).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Removal
Place a catch pan under the engine to catch any minor coolant spillage. Use a wrench to unscrew the faulty sensor from the engine block.
Installation
Apply a small amount of thread sealant (Teflon tape or liquid thread sealant) to the threads of the new sensor if it does not come pre-applied. Thread the new sensor in by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it securely with a wrench.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor.
Refill Coolant
Check the radiator and coolant recovery tank. Top off any coolant that was lost during the swap.
Clear Code & Test
Turn the ignition key to the ON position. The E:018 code should clear automatically, and the coolant temperature gauge should reappear on the LCD display. Start the engine and check for leaks around the new sensor.
