Kubota E-3 – Tractor ECU: Acceleration sensor main/sub phase shifting trouble
Issue description
The ECU detects that the voltage signals from the Main and Sub sensors inside the accelerator pedal assembly do not correlate (a phase shift mismatch). Because the ECU cannot reliably determine the operator's intended throttle input, the tractor defaults to a fail-safe mode, dropping to a low idle and completely disabling throttle response.

Check the cause
Inspect the Tractor ECU Connectors: Check for water intrusion, moisture, green corrosion, or damaged pins (often located under the seat).
Check the Accelerator Pedal Sensor Wiring: Trace the wiring harness from the accelerator pedal sensor to the ECU, looking for chafed wires, loose connections, or shorts to ground/power.
Test the Sensor Output: Using a multimeter or diagnostic tool, verify the voltage sweep of both the Main and Sub circuits on the pedal sensor while slowly depressing the pedal. Voltages should scale proportionally without dropping out or spiking.
Check for Floor Debris: Ensure no dirt, mud, or debris is physically obstructing the pedal's full range of motion.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Clean and grease Tractor ECU connector
If water was found in the Tractor ECU connector: Thoroughly dry the connector and pins using compressed air and electrical contact cleaner. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the seal to prevent future moisture intrusion.
Repair wiring harness
If the wiring harness is damaged: Repair the broken or shorted wires and secure them away from pinch points.
Replace accelerator pedal sensor assembly
If the sensor fails the voltage sweep test (Sensor Replacement): Disconnect the electrical pigtail connector at the accelerator pedal. Remove the mounting bolts securing the pedal assembly to the floorboard/firewall. Install the new pedal sensor assembly and torque the bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Clear fault codes
Turn the key to the 'ON' position. Depending on the model, you may need to use a Kubota diagnostic tool, or perform the manual dash reset (e.g., holding the DPF INHIBIT and parked regeneration switches while turning the key to enter the LCD diagnostic mode, selecting mode 'B', and holding the switch to clear).
Verify repair
Start the tractor and verify that normal throttle response is restored and the code does not return.
