E:9114

Kubota E:9114 – Engine ECU: Pre overheat

Issue description

The engine coolant temperature has risen above safe operating limits and is approaching a critical overheat condition. The Engine ECU actively intervenes to protect the engine by closing the EGR valve, disabling the EGR system, and limiting engine output and acceleration to help reduce the coolant temperature.

Check the cause

  1. Check the coolant temperature gauge on the instrument panel to confirm the engine is actually running hot.

  2. Inspect the radiator and oil cooler grill and fins for blockages from dust, debris, or mulching material (most common cause).

  3. Check the alternator/fan belt tension by trying to turn the fan by hand; if the crank pulley does not turn with it, the belt is too loose.

  4. Check coolant levels in both the overflow reservoir and the radiator (only check when the engine is completely cool).

  5. Verify thermostat operation to ensure it is opening properly to allow coolant to flow through the radiator.

Repair steps

  1. Cool Down

If the E:9114 alarm sounds during operation, immediately interrupt work, lower the engine RPM to allow the coolant temperature to drop, and then shut off the engine.

  2. Clean the Cooling Package

Open the rear door and engine hood. Thoroughly clean the radiator and oil cooler fins using compressed air or low-pressure water to remove any buildup of dirt or debris.

  3. Adjust the Fan Belt

Loosen the alternator mounting bolts and apply tension to the alternator/fan belt. Tighten it to the point where turning the fan by hand forces the engine crank pulley to turn as well. Retighten the alternator bolts. If the belt is glazed, cracked, or stretched, replace it.

  4. Top Off Fluids

Once the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap and verify the coolant level. Top off with Kubota-approved 50/50 coolant if necessary.

  5. Replace the Thermostat

If the radiator is clean, the belt is tight, and the coolant is full but the machine still overheats, drain the coolant, replace the thermostat, and refill/bleed the cooling system.

  6. Test Run

Restart the engine. If the error code does not appear upon restart, the issue is resolved. Run the machine under load to ensure the temperature remains stable.
