E-95

Kubota E-95 – Tractor Main ECU (Engine/Tractor Control Module): Solenoid (PTO) is in trouble.

Issue description

Indicates a malfunction in the Power Take-Off (PTO) solenoid circuit. The system detects an electrical fault (open circuit, short, or voltage irregularity) at the solenoid, and as a safety precaution, the PTO shaft will not rotate or engage.

Applies to these machines

  • L3302
  • L3800
  • L3130
  • L3430
  • L3560
  • L3902
  • L4701
  • M5200
  • MX5200
  • M4D-071
  • M135X
  • MX5400

Check the cause

  1. Check battery voltage to ensure the battery is fully charged and terminals are clean, as a bad cell or low system voltage can trigger this code.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and the pigtail connector at the PTO solenoid for breaks, corrosion, or rodent damage.

  3. Test for voltage at the PTO solenoid connector by disconnecting it, turning the key ON, and engaging the PTO switch. A multimeter should read battery voltage (12.6V - 13.8V). Lack of voltage indicates a blown fuse, bad PTO dash switch, or broken wire.

  4. Test the solenoid coil by measuring the resistance (ohms) across the pins of the PTO solenoid. A healthy coil should read between 2.5 and 4.5 ohms. A reading of 'OL' (open loop) or zero indicates the solenoid is burnt out or shorted internally.

  5. Listen for actuation by applying 12V directly to the solenoid. An audible 'click' should be heard; if not, the valve is mechanically stuck or the coil is dead.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Solenoid

The PTO solenoid is typically located at the rear of the tractor, mounted on the hydraulic valve block above the 3-point hitch or on the side of the transmission housing. On some compact models, removing the right rear wheel provides much better access.

  2. Drain Hydraulic Fluid (If Necessary)

Depending on the solenoid's exact position on your model's transmission case, removing it may release hydraulic fluid. Place a clean drain pan underneath, or be prepared to swap the part very quickly to minimize fluid loss.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical pigtail connector from the faulty PTO solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Unscrew the solenoid valve assembly from the PTO housing/valve block.

  5. Install the New Part

Thread the new OEM PTO solenoid into the housing and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

  6. Reconnect Wiring

Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.

  7. Refill Fluid

Check the transmission dipstick and top off the hydraulic fluid using Kubota SUPER UDT-2 fluid to replace any that was lost during the repair.

  8. Test Operation

Start the tractor, engage the PTO switch, and verify that the PTO shaft spins and the E-95 code clears from the dash.
