P0091

Kubota P0091 – Engine Control Module (ECM): FP Low Voltage

Issue description

This fault code indicates a Fuel Pressure (FP) Low Voltage condition. The Engine Control Module (ECM) triggers this code when the fuel pressure sensor voltage drops below 0.10 volts for at least 1 second while the engine is running, causing the ECM to enforce a 'Low Rev Limit' (power derate).

Applies to these machines

  • WG972
  • WG1605
  • WG1903
  • WG2503
  • WG3800
  • Toro
  • Genie
  • Crown
  • PowerTech
  • JLG
  • Skyjack
  • Snorkel
  • Vermeer
  • Wacker
  • Altec

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the fuel pressure sensor and its wiring harness for physical damage, chafing, or melted wires

  2. Disconnect the sensor and check for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture inside the connector

  3. Test the wiring harness for an open circuit or a short to ground, and verify that the ECM is supplying the correct 5.0V reference voltage to the sensor

  4. Use a diagnostic scan tool to monitor the 'FP Voltage' live data. If the voltage is stuck below 0.10V and the wiring tests good, the sensor itself has failed internally

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Ensure the work area is well-ventilated and relieve any residual fuel system pressure before removing sensors.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Locate the Fuel Pressure Manifold (FPM) sensor on the engine's fuel rail/manifold assembly.

  3. Harness Repair

If your diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground or broken wire in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wiring and replace the protective loom.

  4. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring is intact, disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty fuel pressure sensor. Unthread/remove the old sensor and install the new OEM replacement part.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Connect a diagnostic tool to clear the P0091 fault code. Start the engine and let it run. The ECM requires 2 seconds of normal fuel pressure voltage to unlatch the code and restore normal engine RPM limits.
