Kubota P0129 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): BP Low Pressure / Barometric Pressure Too Low

Issue description

Triggered when the engine control system detects that the barometric pressure reading is lower than expected (below 8.30 psia). This can be caused by a damaged sensor diaphragm, failed internal electronics, or wiring issues, and typically initiates a Power Derate 1 (limp mode).

Check the cause

  1. Check the sensor's signal wire for open circuits or shorts to ground, and inspect the wiring harness and connectors for corrosion, chafing, or broken pins.

  2. Visually inspect the MAP/Barometric pressure sensor for oil, dirt, or physical damage, and verify the vent tube is clear.

  3. Inspect for engine vacuum leaks or intake air leaks downstream of the MAP sensor (e.g., cracked hoses, loose clamps, blocked air-filter housing vent).

  4. Use an OBD-II scanner to read live MAP/Barometric data at idle, checking if sensor voltage is 0.5-2.5 V and comparing reported pressure to actual ambient atmospheric pressure.

Repair steps

  1. Retrieve Codes

    Connect a diagnostic scanner to confirm P0129 and check for any related codes (such as P0106).

  2. Perform Visual & Physical Checks

    Execute the diagnostic checks for wiring, leaks, and physical damage.

  3. Repair Wiring/Leaks

    If a vacuum leak is found, replace the cracked hose or tighten the clamp. If wiring is damaged or shorted to ground, repair or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace the Sensor

    If the wiring is intact, no leaks are present, and the sensor voltage is out of range, remove the old sensor from the intake manifold/engine bay and install the new OEM replacement.

  5. Calibrate/Reset

    Perform a calibration reset or ECU update if required by the ECM when a new MAP/Barometric sensor is installed.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

    Clear the P0129 code using your scanner and test drive the machine under load to ensure the code does not return and full power is restored.
