Kubota P0270 – Engine ECM: Injector Driver #4 Open/Short-To-Ground

Indicates a circuit malfunction where the driver circuit for the cylinder #4 fuel injector in the engine harness is either open or shorted to ground, or the cylinder #4 injector coil is shorted internally. The Engine Control Module logs this code when the engine is running and the battery voltage is greater than 9.0 volts, forcing a Low Rev Limit.

   Verify battery voltage is sufficient (must be greater than 9.0 volts)

   Visually inspect the cylinder #4 fuel injector wiring harness connector for damage, bad contact, aging, or looseness

   Measure the resistance of the cylinder #4 injector coil to check for an internal short

   Check the engine wiring harness between the cylinder #4 injector and the Engine ECM for an open circuit or short-to-ground

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery

   Ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Locate the fuel injector for cylinder #4

   Disconnect its electrical connector.

   Inspect the connector pins

   Check for corrosion or damage. If bad contact is found, clean the terminals or replace the connector pigtail.

   Measure the resistance of the #4 injector coil

   If the internal coil is shorted (resistance is out of specification), remove and replace the fuel injector.

   Trace the wiring harness from the injector back to the Engine ECM

   If the injector tests fine, repair any broken wires (open circuit) or chafed wires touching the engine block (short-to-ground).

   Reconnect the injector and the battery

   Clear the fault code

   Use a diagnostic tool to clear the P0270 fault code.

   Start the engine and verify

   Verify that the code does not return and the engine operates without a low rev limit.
