Kubota P0341 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: Camshaft Input Signal Noise

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected electrical noise or an irregular camshaft pattern. Specifically, the code sets when the system detects more than 3 invalid cam re-synchronization events within a time window of less than 700 ms (or 800 ms, depending on the specific engine model) while the engine is running.

Check the cause

  1. Check the camshaft position sensor (CMP) wiring harness for an open circuit, short to power, or short to ground. Verify that the CMP+ and CMP- circuits are not pinned in the wrong connector terminal slots. (For WG1605 engines, this is Connector C020: Pin 1 is CAM+ Gray/Brown, Pin 2 is CAM- Purple/Orange).

  2. Check for a loss of feed voltage to the cam sensor or an open sensor ground.

  3. Inspect the sensor for an improper signal caused by the sensor air gap being too large between the sensor and the camshaft pulsar gear.

  4. Test the sensor's internal resistance. For WG1605 engines, the resistance between the terminals should measure between 470 and 530 Ω.

  5. Check for mechanical misalignment between the camshaft and crankshaft.

Repair steps

  1. Confirm active code

    Connect a diagnostic laptop using Kubota Diagmaster software to the engine ECU to confirm P0341 is the only active code.

  2. Locate sensor

    Locate the Camshaft Position Sensor (also called the G Sensor), which is a magnetic pick-up sensor installed in the engine block or valve train adjacent to a trigger wheel on the camshaft.

  3. Inspect connector

    Disconnect the sensor connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or push-out.

  4. Perform electrical checks

    Using a multimeter, perform the resistance and continuity checks outlined in the diagnostic section above.

  5. Inspect sensor tip

    Remove the sensor mounting bolt and pull the sensor from the block. Inspect the magnetic tip for metal debris or physical damage, which can cause signal noise.

  6. Replace sensor

    If the wiring is intact, the air gap is correct, and the sensor fails the resistance test or is physically damaged, replace the Camshaft Position Sensor.

  7. Install new sensor

    Install the new sensor, torque the mounting bolt to OEM specifications, and reconnect the harness.

  8. Clear DTCs and verify

    Use the Diagmaster software to clear the DTCs, then run the engine to verify the MIL remains off and the code does not return.
