Kubota P0359 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: Fuel run-out longer than expected

Issue description

This fault indicates an issue with the lock-off solenoid or the fuel pump motor high-side circuit. The system detects that the fuel run-out process (the time it takes to deplete fuel from the lines during shutdown, typical in LPG/NG systems) is taking longer than the programmed threshold. The underlying condition is usually an open circuit, a short to ground in the lock-off solenoid wiring, a fuel leak at the solenoid, or a faulty controller.

Check the cause

  1. Check the condition of the wiring and harness leading to the low-pressure lock-off solenoid for any opens, shorts to ground, or chafing.

  2. Verify that the DEPR (Direct Electronic Pressure Regulator) wiring harness connection and the VSW electrical connections are fully seated, locked, and free of corrosion.

  3. Check for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) by monitoring the engine RPM with a scan tool. A sudden spike or increase in the displayed RPM with little to no change in the actual engine RPM indicates EMI is present.

  4. If EMI is suspected, check the routing of the secondary ignition wires and ensure the ground circuit is secure and clean.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Disconnect the battery and relieve any residual pressure in the fuel system (especially critical for LPG/NG systems) before servicing components.

  2. Resolve EMI Issues

    If the diagnostic checks revealed Electromagnetic Interference, reroute the secondary ignition cables away from the ECM and sensor wiring harnesses. Clean and tighten all engine ground connections.

  3. Repair Wiring

    If an open or short to ground was found in the lock-off solenoid or fuel pump motor high-side circuit, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

  4. Replace Solenoid/Pump

    If the wiring is intact and no EMI is present, the lock-off solenoid itself may be internally shorted or mechanically leaking fuel. Replace the lock-off solenoid or the fuel pump assembly.

  5. Clear and Verify

    Reconnect the battery, use your diagnostic scan tool to clear the P0359 / SPN 632 code, and run the engine through a full startup and shutdown cycle to ensure the code does not return.
