Kubota P0643 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: Sensor Supply Voltage 1 High
Issue description
Triggers when the engine computer detects that the 5-volt reference circuit #1 is receiving a voltage higher than the acceptable limit (spikes above 5.40V or 5.625V for more than 1 to 2 seconds). This causes unreliable sensor signals, which can force the machine into a power derate (limp mode) or limit accelerator output to 50%.

Check the cause
Confirm that the base battery voltage is normal (approx. 12V–14.5V)
Measure the voltage on the 5V reference circuit at the sensor connectors with Key ON and Engine OFF
Check for an internal short inside a sensor (e.g., MAP, Accelerator Pedal Position, Throttle Position) feeding 12V back into the 5V line
Inspect the engine wiring harness for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched areas where the 5V reference wire might be shorting to a 12V power source
Inspect the ECM ground connections and harness connectors for corrosion or looseness
Repair steps
Safety & Prep
Park the machine, turn the key OFF, and engage the parking brake.
Scan & Verify
Connect the Kubota Diagmaster tool (or an equivalent J1939 scanner) to confirm P0643 is active and to check for any other specific sensor codes.
Disconnect Sensors
Turn the ignition Key ON (Engine OFF). Disconnect the sensors on the Sensor Supply 1 circuit one at a time while monitoring the reference voltage with your multimeter.
Identify Faulty Sensor
If the voltage drops back down to the normal ~5.0V range when a specific sensor is unplugged, that sensor is internally shorted. Replace the faulty sensor.
Test the Wiring Harness
If unplugging the sensors does not resolve the high voltage, the wiring harness is likely shorted to power. Trace the 5V reference wire back to the ECM, looking for exposed copper touching a 12V wire. Repair or replace the damaged section of the harness.
Test the ECM
If the wiring harness tests perfectly (no short to power) and all sensors are good, the ECM's internal voltage regulator has likely failed. The ECM will need to be replaced and programmed.
Clear & Retest
Reconnect all components, clear the DTCs using the diagnostic tool, cycle the key, and run the engine to verify the code does not return.
