P1274

Kubota P1274 – Engine ECU: Pump seizing 1 or Pump protection failure flag

Issue description

A critical over-pressure condition in the Common Rail System (CRS). The Engine Control Unit has detected that the high-pressure fuel rail is receiving maximum, uncontrolled fuel volume because the high-pressure supply pump or its Suction Control Valve (SCV) is stuck/seized open.

Applies to these machines

  • V3307
  • V3800
  • V3800-CR-TE4
  • V3800-TIE4F
  • V6108
  • D1803-CR-E4
  • M108X
  • M6060
  • M7060
  • SVL65-2
  • SVL75-2
  • SVL95
  • SSV65
  • SSV75
  • KX057-4
  • KX080-4
  • U55-4
  • R530
  • R630

Check the cause

  1. Check for related SCV codes (P0087, P0088, P0089) which might point to an electrical short rather than a mechanical seizure.

  2. Verify sensor integrity by ensuring the sensor supply voltage (VCC) is normal and the rail pressure sensor has no open or short circuits.

  3. Inspect fuel quality by checking the fuel filters and tank for debris, water intrusion, or lack of lubricity, which is the primary cause of a seized pump.

Repair steps

  1. Shut Down and Inspect

Turn off the machine. Inspect the fuel system for contamination. If contamination is found, drain and flush the fuel tank and fuel lines.

  2. Replace Fuel Filters

Replace the primary and secondary fuel filters, as well as any rubber fuel piping if degraded.

  3. Remove the Supply Pump

Disconnect the battery, remove the fuel lines, and unbolt the high-pressure supply pump from the crankcase. Note: Kubota service manuals explicitly state 'Do Not Disassemble The Supply Pump' in the field.

  4. Install the New Supply Pump

Mount the replacement pump. Caution: When attaching the supply pump to the crankcase, do not put force on the SCV and overflow sections of the part.

  5. Perform ECU Learning

Once the new pump is installed and the system is primed, connect a diagnostic tool to the Engine ECU. You must perform the 'Supply Pump Difference Learning' procedure (Active Test) so the ECU can calibrate to the new pump's flow characteristics.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the P1274 fault code and run the engine to verify that rail pressure remains within normal parameters.
