   Check Grounds: A poor chassis ground can cause voltage irregularities that scramble the microprocessor's logic. Inspect and clean the chassis ground wiring harness and the main ECU ground strap.

   Check Connectors: Inspect the 90-pin (or similar) ECU connectors for moisture intrusion, corrosion, or damaged pins.

   Attempt a Reset: Connect your diagnostic tool and manually clear the P1616 code. Cycle the key OFF, then back ON. If the code returns immediately upon Key ON, the internal microprocessor is permanently damaged.
