Kubota P1673 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / ECU: Calibration Configuration Error

This is an internal processor diagnostic code indicating an ECM (Engine Control Module) malfunction. The code triggers when the key is turned to the 'ON' position and the ECM's internal microprocessor detects that specific calibration variable checks do not return the expected results, meaning the calibration data is corrupt or missing. When this code is active, the system typically commands the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to turn ON, disables certain functions (AL Disable KC), and forces the engine into a 'Power derate 2' state.

   Verify the key is in the 'ON' position, as this is the precondition for the ECM to run its internal microprocessor checks.

   Check battery and system voltage, as low voltage or a bad jump-start can cause memory/EEPROM corruption in control modules.

   Scan for concurrent codes (such as DTC 1615 A/D loss or DTC 1616 Invalid interrupt) which would confirm a catastrophic ECM hardware failure.

   Access the Diagnostic System

   Connect your diagnostic scan tool or GCP Display to the machine's diagnostic connector.

   Attempt ECM Reprogramming

   Because the calibration data is corrupt, the primary repair step is to re-flash or reprogram the ECM with the correct, up-to-date calibration software.

   Replace the ECM

   If the ECM will not accept the new calibration, or if the internal microprocessor is physically damaged (hardware failure), the ECM must be replaced.

   Clear the Fault Code

   Once the ECM is reprogrammed or replaced, follow the on-screen prompts on your diagnostic tool to clear the historic fault codes. Note: Never clear the code without addressing the calibration issue, as the code will immediately return upon the next Key-ON cycle.

   Cycle the key off and back on, then start the engine to verify the MIL remains off and the engine is no longer in a derated state.
