Kubota P2127 – Engine ECU (Engine Control Module): Accelerator Position Sensor 2 Abnormality: Low

Issue description

Triggered when the voltage reading from the secondary sensor circuit (FPP2) drops below the expected threshold (typically 0.3 Volts or less for 1.5 to 3 seconds). The underlying condition is almost always a ground short circuit or an open circuit in the sensor itself or the wiring harness, resulting in a fail-safe mode such as Forced Idle, Power Derate 1, Low Rev Limit, or inhibited DPF regeneration.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Battery Voltage: Ensure the system battery voltage is normal, as low system voltage can skew sensor readings.

  2. Check Sensor Supply Voltage: Verify that the Engine ECU is outputting the correct 5V reference voltage (VCC1 / 5V EXT 2) to the pedal sensor.

  3. Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the wiring harness between the accelerator pedal and the Engine ECU for open circuits, shorts to ground, or physical damage (chafing, water intrusion at the connector).

  4. Compare Sensor Outputs: Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor FPP1 and FPP2 live data. The code sets when the difference between FPP1% and FPP2% is greater than 20% due to FPP2 dropping out.

Repair steps

  1. Turn the key switch to the OFF position

    Turn the key switch to the OFF position to depower the ECU.

  2. Locate the accelerator pedal position sensor

    Locate the accelerator pedal position sensor (usually mounted directly on the pedal assembly inside the cab).

  3. Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector

    Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals.

  4. Perform a continuity test

    Using a multimeter, perform a continuity test on the signal wire (FPP2) and the ground wire back to the ECU to rule out a broken wire or a short to the chassis.

  5. Identify failed sensor

    If the wiring harness tests good and the 5V reference is present, the internal potentiometer of the sensor has failed.

  6. Install the replacement part

    Remove the mounting bolts/screws holding the sensor (or the entire pedal assembly, depending on the machine design) and install the replacement part.

  7. Reconnect the harness and cycle the pedal

    Reconnect the harness, turn the key ON, and cycle the accelerator pedal. The DTC will often remain active until the pedal is cycled and the ECU verifies the voltage is back within the specified range. Clear the code with a scan tool if necessary.
