P2293

Kubota P2293 – Engine ECU: Abnormal fuel pressure regulator performance

Issue description

The fuel pressure regulator (SCV) is failing to maintain the correct fuel rail pressure, or the mechanical pressure limiter (P/L) valve is stuck and cannot open/close properly, forcing the engine into limp mode or causing it to shut down.

Applies to these machines

  • L47
  • L4060
  • L6060
  • M100GXDTC
  • M7-131
  • M7-171
  • MX4800
  • MX5400
  • SSV65
  • SSV75
  • SVL75-2
  • SVL90-2C
  • SVL95-2S
  • Carrier transport refrigeration units

Check the cause

  1. Check the fuel sediment bowl and water separator for water contamination or debris (clogged filters or water can cause pressure drops)

  2. Inspect the electrical connector at the Suction Control Valve (SCV) / Fuel Pressure Regulator on the injection pump to ensure it has not been knocked loose or damaged

  3. Verify the battery is fully charged (12V or higher) and cables are tight, as low voltage can cause erratic sensor readings

  4. Connect diagnostic software (Kubota Diagmaster or Jaltest) to the Engine ECU to monitor live fuel rail pressure and verify if the pressure limiter valve is physically stuck

Repair steps

  1. Drain/Replace Fuel Filters

If water or debris is found, drain the fuel sediment bowl and replace the fuel filters.

  2. Secure Connections

Reconnect and securely clip the Suction Control Valve sensor connector if it was dislodged.

  3. Replace the SCV / Pressure Regulator

If the wiring is intact and fuel delivery is clean but the code persists, relieve fuel system pressure, unbolt the SCV from the high-pressure fuel pump, and install the new SCV with its new O-rings/seals.

  4. Bleed the Fuel System

Ensure all air is bled from the fuel lines after opening the system.

  5. Clear the DTC

Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. Using Kubota Diagmaster or your scan tool, clear the P2293 code from the ECU.

  6. Test

Turn the ignition OFF, then back to RUN, and start the engine to verify the repair and ensure the engine revs past limp-mode limits.
