P2307

Kubota P2307 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: Spark Coil #3 Primary Short-to-Power

Issue description

The engine control system has detected either a short to power in the wiring harness for Spark Coil #3 or a short internal to the primary coil itself.

Applies to these machines

  • WG1605-E3 series
  • WG1605-G-E3
  • WG1605-L-E3
  • WG1605-GL-E3
  • WG1605-N-E3
  • WG2503
  • WG3800

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the machine's battery voltage is stable and between 10.0V and 16.0V.

  2. Check for loose ignition coil connections at the coil.

  3. Disconnect the coil and test the wiring harness leading to Spark Coil #3 for a short to power.

  4. Test Spark Coil #3 for an internal short circuit in the primary winding.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the machine on firm and level ground. Allow the engine to cool completely. Stop the engine, remove the key, disconnect the battery negative cable, and hang a 'DO NOT OPERATE' tag in the operator station.

  2. Access the Coils

Locate the ignition coils on the cylinder head. Depending on the exact engine variant, you may need to remove the injector flange or ignition coil flange to access the coils.

  3. Address Harness Issues

If your diagnostic tests revealed a short to power in the harness, the harness must be addressed. Note: Kubota OEM service manuals state that Kubota does not approve wiring harness repairs; therefore, a damaged harness should technically be replaced rather than spliced.

  4. Replace the Coil

If the coil has an internal short, unbolt Spark Coil #3 and disconnect its electrical connector. Install the new OEM ignition coil.

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall any removed flanges or brackets. Reconnect the battery negative cable.

  6. Clear Codes

Use the Kubota Gasoline Service Tool (KGST) and DST-i interface to clear the fault codes and verify the repair.
