Kubota P2309 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: Spark Coil #4 Primary Open/Short-to-Ground
Issue description
Triggers when the engine control module detects an electrical fault (short to ground, open circuit, or short to power) on the primary side of the #4 ignition coil circuit while the engine is cranking or running. This typically forces a Low Rev Limit to protect the engine.

Check the cause
Inspect ignition coil #4 (Coil D) and surrounding wiring harness for damaged wires, melted insulation, water ingress, or corroded/bent connector pins
Verify battery voltage is within normal operating range (10.0V - 16.0V) and check the integrity of engine grounds
Perform a coil swap test by swapping ignition coil #4 with a known-good coil (e.g., coil #1) to see if the fault follows the coil
Measure primary and secondary resistance of the ignition coil using a multimeter and compare to Kubota factory specifications
Disconnect ECM and coil connectors to measure continuity of primary wiring, checking for a short to ground or short to battery voltage
Use an oscilloscope or DVOM to check the primary switching waveform (coil driver command) from the ECM while cranking or running
