P2414

Kubota P2414 – Engine ECU: EGR (DC motor) overheat

Issue description

The ECU receives a temperature error signal from the EGR DC motor's thermistor indicating temperatures of 125°C (257°F) or more for at least 2.8 seconds. The system goes into a protection mode, limiting engine output to approximately 75%, inhibiting DPF regeneration, and stopping the EGR valve.

Applies to these machines

  • L3301
  • L3560
  • L3901
  • L4060
  • L4760
  • L5060
  • L5240
  • L5460
  • L5740
  • V2403-CR
  • V3307-CR
  • V3800-CR
  • D1803-CR
  • KX040-4
  • U48-5

Check the cause

  1. Check exhaust routing and physical distance between the EGR valve and the DPF/exhaust pipe for radiant heat issues (primary cause per PSB-2018-053)

  2. Check battery voltage to ensure the ECU has sufficient power to properly read the thermistor

  3. Check for CAN Bus errors (e.g., U0077) to rule out a communication failure rather than a true overheat

  4. Inspect the EGR control line wiring harness for shorts, which can cause the ECU to constantly drive the EGR motor and overheat it

  5. Check cooling system and ensure the radiator is free of debris, as general engine bay overheating can contribute to the sensor tripping

Repair steps

  1. Cool Down

Turn off the machine and allow the engine and exhaust components to cool completely.

  2. Insulate the EGR Valve

Install an insulation cover/blanket over the EGR valve to resolve radiant heat issues, per Kubota Product Service Bulletin PSB-2018-053.

  3. Replace the EGR Valve

If the valve has been permanently damaged by the heat or if the internal DC motor is failing and constantly cycling, replace the EGR valve assembly.

  4. Harness Replacement

If the code persists after insulation and valve replacement, the engine wiring harness may have a short and will need to be replaced.

  5. Clear the ECU

Connect a laptop with Kubota diagnostic software (Diagmaster) to clear the stored code and restore the machine to 100% power. The code will not clear simply by turning the key off and on.
