Kubota P2415 – Engine ECU: EGR (DC motor) temperature sensor failure

Issue description

The Engine ECU receives an error signal from the EGR DC motor's internal temperature sensor (thermistor) via the CAN bus for 2.8 seconds or more, indicating an abnormally high temperature (often 125°C/257°F or more) or sensor circuit failure. This triggers limp home mode, stopping the EGR system and limiting engine output to approximately 75%.

Check the cause

  1. Check battery voltage to ensure the system has normal voltage, as low voltage can cause erroneous sensor readings.

  2. Check for CAN bus codes to verify there is no active U0077 (CAN1 Bus off) DTC. If present, diagnose it first, as the ECU relies on the CAN bus to read the EGR temperature.

  3. Inspect the EGR control line wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the EGR DC motor for chafing, shorts to ground, or disconnected pins.

  4. Cycle the key switch to the OFF position, then back to ON. Clear past DTCs with a diagnostic tool and check if P2415 returns to confirm it is a hard fault.
