Kubota P2454 – Engine ECU: Differential pressure sensor 1: Low

Issue description

Triggers when the DPF differential pressure sensor voltage drops to 0.21 V or lower for 2.8 seconds or more. This typically indicates a short circuit to ground in the sensor itself or within the wiring harness connecting the sensor to the ECU, or a complete internal failure of the sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Verify preconditions: Ensure the battery voltage is normal, the sensor supply voltage (VCC#) is normal, and the starter switch signal (ECU: V12 terminal) is NOT activated.

  2. Perform a live data check using a diagnostic tool to monitor the DPF differential pressure sensor voltage. Confirm it is reading 0.21 V or less.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the DPF differential pressure sensor connector. Test for continuity and shorts to ground on Terminal A-VCC12, Terminal A-GND11, and the DPS signal terminal.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the key switch and ensure the engine is completely off.

  2. Inspect the Connector

    Locate the DPF differential pressure sensor (usually mounted near the DPF assembly with two hoses attached). Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals.

  3. Test the Wiring

    Using a multimeter, test the wiring harness from the sensor connector back to the Engine ECU for a short to ground.

  4. Repair Wiring

    If a short to ground is found in the harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring.

  5. Replace the Sensor

    If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine and the 5V reference voltage is present at the connector, the sensor has failed internally (shorted to ground inside the sensor body). Replace the DPF differential pressure sensor.

  6. Clear and Verify

    Reconnect all components, clear the P2454 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and run the engine to verify the voltage is now within normal operating range (typically around 0.5V - 4.5V depending on DPF load) and the code does not return.
