P260E

Kubota P260E – Engine ECU: Active regeneration lamp error

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit has detected a short to battery positive (voltage) in the circuit that drives the active DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration indicator lamp while the lamp is commanded on.

Applies to these machines

  • V3800-TIEF4
  • V3800-TIEF4B
  • V3800-TIEF4C
  • V3800-TIE5
  • Takeuchi TL12V2
  • Takeuchi TL12R2

Check the cause

  1. Verify the machine's battery voltage is normal to rule out false electrical faults.

  2. Verify that the starter switch signal (ECU: V12 terminal) is not actively engaged.

  3. Check if the active regeneration/heater lamp is physically illuminated or stuck on.

  4. Probe the active regeneration lamp circuit for a direct short to a 12V/24V positive source (+B), checking for chafed wires or internal dash cluster shorts.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn the key switch to the "OFF" position. The ECU requires a key cycle to recover from this specific error state.

  2. Access the Dash/Cluster

Remove the instrument panel or dash console to access the rear wiring of the active regeneration indicator lamp.

  3. Test the Circuit

Disconnect the lamp connector and use a multimeter to check for voltage on the ground/control side of the circuit. If voltage is present when it shouldn't be, trace the wiring harness back to the Engine ECU to locate the short.

  4. Repair or Replace Wiring

Repair the shorted wire. Note: Kubota OEM service manuals state that "Kubota does not approve wire harness repairs" in certain common rail systems, meaning a replacement of the affected harness section may be officially required.

  5. Inspect the Lamp/Bulb

Check the bulb socket itself for internal melting or a short circuit bridging the contacts.

  6. Clear and Verify

Reconnect all components, turn the key switch ON, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the P260E code. Run the machine and verify the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Active Regeneration Indicator Lamp / Dash Cluster Bulb

Generic part; replace if the socket is internally shorted

  • Main Equipment Wiring Harness / Dash Harness

Generic part; replace if the short to +B cannot be isolated or if adhering strictly to Kubota's non-repair harness policy

  • Engine ECU

Generic part; only replace if the wiring tests perfectly fine and the internal lamp driver inside the ECU is permanently shorted
