Kubota P3001 – Engine Control Unit (Engine ECU): Emission Deterioration / High Soot Accumulation (DPF)
Issue description
This code indicates a deterioration of emissions due to a high soot build-up in the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or the after-treatment system. Technically, it is triggered when the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) is heated up due to unburned fuel entering the exhaust stream outside of a normal regeneration cycle. The code sets when the temperature difference (T1 - T0) is 250°C (482°F) or more for 60 seconds or more. The machine will typically go into 'limp mode,' limiting engine output to approximately 50% of normal power to prevent damage.

Check the cause
Inspect the Air Filter: A wet, clogged, or dirty air filter can restrict airflow, causing the engine to run rich and dump unburned fuel into the DOC.
Check Fuel Quality and Delivery: Inspect the fuel water separator for water or wax/gelling (especially in cold weather without winterized diesel). Bad fuel is a leading cause of this code.
Inspect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor: A dirty or faulty MAF sensor can cause improper air/fuel mixtures.
Review Operating Habits: Excessive idling prevents the exhaust from reaching the temperatures required to passively burn off soot, leading to rapid DPF loading.

Replace the primary air filter and the fuel filter. Drain and clean the water separator screen.
Clear the Code / Target Mode
On some tractor models, you can clear the code by turning the key off, pressing and holding the two regeneration buttons next to the steering wheel, and turning the key on. An 'A' (Target Mode) will appear. Press the inhibit button to cycle to 'B' (error information clear mode), hold the buttons until the display changes, and cycle it to 'off'.
Perform a Forced Regeneration
Once the code is cleared and filters are replaced, you must perform a manual/forced DPF regeneration to burn away the accumulated soot. This can be done via the dashboard buttons (if the soot load isn't too high) or by using a diagnostic tool (like Jaltest or Kubota dealer software).
Dealer Intervention (If Regen Fails)
If the tractor will not regenerate or the code immediately returns, the DPF may be face-plugged or oil-soaked, or a fuel injector may be leaking unburned fuel into the exhaust. In this case, the DPF must be removed and professionally baked/cleaned, or replaced entirely.
