A00003

Manitou A00003 – ECU: I.C. Engine Fault / Overheat

Issue description

A generic fault has been detected in the internal combustion (I.C.) engine. While the exact nature of the fault is not specified by the code alone, it frequently indicates an engine overheat condition where the engine has exceeded its normal operating temperature. Immediate engine shutdown is strongly recommended to prevent severe damage.

Applies to these machines

  • MT 1440PE3
  • MT 1840PE3
  • MT 6642XT
  • MLT Series
  • MT Series
  • MT-X Series
  • MRT Series
  • MHT Series
  • MVT Series
  • ML Series
  • MLA Series
  • MLB Series
  • 2200R
  • MLT 630-115

Check the cause

  1. Confirm engine temperature visually (look for steam) and allow the engine to cool down completely before proceeding

  2. Check coolant level and condition in the reservoir and radiator (low coolant is a primary cause of overheating)

  3. Inspect the radiator and cooling fins for buildup of dirt, dust, or debris obstructing airflow

  4. Inspect cooling system hoses for leaks or cracks, and check the fan belt for looseness or breakage

  5. Perform a cabling check on the wiring harness connected to the engine's coolant temperature sensor for damage, corrosion, or loose connections

Repair steps

  1. Address cooling system issues

If low coolant, a dirty radiator, or damaged hoses/belts are found, top up the coolant, clean the radiator, or replace faulty components as necessary.

  2. Test coolant temperature sensor

If the cooling system is functioning correctly, test the engine coolant temperature sensor's resistance at different temperatures to verify it is within manufacturer specifications.

  3. Inspect and repair wiring

Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness between the temperature sensor and the ECU. Repair any frayed wires or corroded connectors.

  4. Replace temperature sensor

If the sensor tests outside of acceptable resistance specifications, replace it with a new OEM sensor.

  5. Clear codes and test

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code and operate the machine. If the fault persists, perform a more in-depth diagnosis using Manitou's Interactive View (iV) software to check the ECU and related systems.
